Kappa's 65th Anniversary

Celebrating ADG Milestones...

Once again it is time to celebrate another milestone in the history of Alpha Delta Gammas Kappa Chapter. This year we recognize 65 years of history, tradition, and brotherhood. I take the liberty in saying that being a part of Kappa chapter has changed all of our lives. Each of us have fostered everlasting brotherhood and memories over the six and a half decades of our fraternity’s existence. Our chapter has and continues to positively impact the lives of countless young men at The Catholic University of America. Now, occasion calls for us to reunite and reminisce on old all the memories and look forward to the new.

Personally, I owe sincere gratitude to Alpha Delta Gamma especially having won the national scholarship twice. Indeed I must accredit this to another Kappa brother who chided me to have faith and put in the applications. This and other fond memories of our camaraderie adorn my college career; I believe that in the same way we can all relate to the wonderful times we saw during our time in the chapter. I am extremely excited for this reunion of great brothers and the chance to once again be part of the tradition of our anniversary celebration. Please take advantage of this opportunity to come home Kappa; especially this semester as sixteen candidates have been recruited to continue build our brotherhood!

As alumni, there are many ways to connect to the life Kappa chapter as well as connect to the Capital City Alumni association. I implore us all throughout this year to reconnect to our active and alumni organizations. As alumni it remains our duty to support our chapter. Through our support we ensure that future candidacy classes will one day have the same fond memories that we harbor in our hears. Donations of all types; service time, alumni spotlight presentations, and scholarship gifts will help our young men continue in the 5 S’s.

Hope to see you all soon,
Christopher Smith, S'09

P.S. Don’t forget to come to the 65th anniversary banquet! It’s at 7pm on Saturday, October 24th at the Phoenix Park Hotel (next door to Irish Times, I know everyone know where that is). I’ll see you all there!

From Junior in high school to junior in college

When I was first introduced to Alpha Delta Gamma I was a junior in highschool. My brother, Chris Kopjanski F’08, had already been candidate educator and president of Alpha Delta Gamma Kappa Chapter. I was here for his graduation and in that time I had met ‘his brothers’. The concept was still foreign to me because I was his brother! After a weekend of living with Chris and his brothers I was able to appreciate the experience from a new perspective. I was a young 17 year old, yet I had been incorporated into these 22 year olds daily life and I had felt like I was respected by all of them. Being a member of Kappa for 3 years now I feel that respect for all is a strong quality of ours. Everyone, to some degree, seeks acceptance from others in their daily lives, at Kappa our faith keeps us strong to treat others as we would want to be treated.

This year Kappa Chapter is approaching its 65th anniversary. It is the time of the year for all of us to reflect on what Kappa has offered us and has the potential to offer many more. We have come a long way from being a small catholic fraternity at Catholic University to becoming a hub of integrity, honesty, and spirituality. It is hard to believe how dramatically this brotherhood has grown and evolved through the generations, and those of us currently at Kappa are satisfied with how we are leading the way for the next Alpha Delts. I would like to thank my brother and my Alpha Delt brothers, new and old, for creating an environment like this for me to flourish in. If it were not for our brothers before us who had pursued a righteous attempt of brotherhood, many of us would not be given this amazing opportunity.

Currently Kappa Chapter is in its first week of rush, and I am pleased to say that we have been able to successfully spread our brotherhood to Catholic University's’ freshmen. With events on and off campus I think we were able to offer experiences similar to mine, understanding what is Alpha Delta Gamma about and what is it to be an Alpha Delt. These fundamental concepts are both hard to learn but also hard to forget. In my experience brothers of Alpha Delta Gamma are always active in achieving brotherhood wherever they are, that’s why I’m excited to see my alumni brothers during homecoming. Homecoming is another great way for our alums to meet our new candidates, strengthening our tradition and culture.

Connections with Seniors past....

Hello my name is Evan Gillissie, I pledged Kappa Chapter in Fall 2012. As a rising senior and a brother of Alpha Delta Gamma, I am looking forward to this year’s Homecoming weekend and 65th Anniversary Banquet for a number of reasons.

This will be my last year at CUA, unlike many of brothers I am on the rare four year plan as opposed to five or six and entering senior year gives me the opportunity to reflect on all the experiences I have had over the past four years.

It can be a relatively somber thought knowing the relations that have developed, the lifestyles that have been created, and the structure that I am used to is all coming to a close. I know realize what it was like for the seniors of Kappa Chapter, when I was just a freshmen. Applying to law schools, graduate programs and even jobs must have been daunting task for the many senior brothers, and now I get to share in those experience.

I was amazed to see how fast these four years have gone by, and how many of the senior brothers rarely visit because of their dense work or school schedules. However, it is nice to know that there are events like this that keep the brotherhood together. The situation I am in now is the situation the seniors were in when I was a freshman three years ago.

I am looking forward to reconnecting with many of these individuals and making an effort to stay in contact with them upon graduation. I hope to see all of the Seniors from 2012-2013, from my freshmen year attend this year's banquet and once again reminisce on the great memories that have helped form my college career!

Remember you can register on ADGKappa65.weebly.com! It's important to register early, and I hope to see all of you there!

Dear Kappa Chapter Alumni!

I hope this letter finds you all well.

My name is Dan Heesemann and I am currently Kappa's Vice President of External Affairs and would like to fill you in on some big news for our beloved chapter.  This year marks Alpha Delta Gamma's 65th year at CUA!  As such, the Active Brotherhood has decided to mark the occasion a special Homecoming Weekend Formal on October 24that the Phoenix Park Hotel in downtown Washington.

This event is bound to be a fantastic time for Alumni, young and old alike, especially the timing as many of you will be back in town to celebrate Homecoming!

For the younger guys, it will be a chance to catch up with Brothers you know who are still active while networking with the alumni who are already in the DC Metro area at a Homecoming Reception at Brookland's new Steel Plate Restaurant and Bar  on October 23rd

And for the older Kappa alums, come to the Formal and the Alumni Bar Crawl afterwards, which is sure to bring back memories as we hit up CUA's  favorite bars such as the Dubliner, Union Pub and Kelly's Irish Times.

Homecoming is already fun to begin with, make it better by coming to the ADG events all weekend!  They will surely remind you of what it was like to be an Alpha Delt at Kappa Chapter and ensure that the Active Brothers are reminded of the strong Alumni support they have as they go forward to build a stronger, taller City Walled at CUA.

Fraternally,

Dan Heesemann
